Introduction to the Invention of the Chinese Dragon
With the help of the basic methods of culturology and folklore, this book traces how the dragon became the exclusive property of the emperor and how it was shared by the whole people, and examines the changes of the image of the dragon in different historical contexts in different periods.
When discussing the image of the dragon in the modern foreign perspective, the author combs more than 200 rare pictures of ancient books and periodicals in Europe, the United States, Japan and other countries, from the royal symbol of status, fashion elements, to the common material of satire and attack on the ancient East, revealing the complexity of the image of the dragon and the meaning behind it.
In the context of globalization, revisiting the old topic of the collision of Chinese and western cultures not only gives us a new perspective to understand the profound connotation of traditional Chinese culture, but also enables us to examine the spread and exchange of foreign cultures beyond the limitations of The Times, take history as a mirror, better sum up experience and lessons, and seek a solution to the dilemma of modern culture.
