Introduction to the content of Chinese Character Revolution

The book is a story full of dramatic tension, with both a macro international perspective and intriguing historical details. Starting from the phonocentrism that gave birth to the Chinese character revolution, this paper discusses the occurrence, variation and cessation of the Chinese character revolution. Following the author's discussion, we can see the experiences of many linguists and writers in the 20th century, such as Zhao Yuanren, Qu Qiubai, Xu Dishan, Yan Yangchu, Ye Shentao, Chen Mengjia and Tang LAN, who participated in the Chinese character revolution. They had different backgrounds and positions, and their Chinese character reform plans also focused on different aspects. It echoes and overlaps with the tense process of the Chinese revolution. From the beginning of the 20th century, after the May Fourth Movement, the Anti-Japanese War, and the founding of New China, the tide of The Times has given different aspects to the Chinese character revolution. In the end, through the introduction of Zhou Youguang, it explains the "aftermath" after the end of the Chinese character revolution, and indicates that although the Chinese character revolution has stopped, "the cause of Chinese is still unfinished".

--

In the 20th century, the upsurge of Chinese character revolution is an important historical event that has been forgotten. This revolution was accompanied by the New Culture Movement and the vernacular Movement, an attempt to transplant the phonetic alphabet system and the spelling of the popular voice into the Chinese soil under the call for the abolition of Chinese characters, and was understood as an integral part of a radical and progressive literary and political revolution

From the perspective of the dialectical relationship within phonocentrism, this book discusses the occurrence, variation and cessation of the Chinese character revolution, tracing the various variations produced in the process of the Chinese character revolution and the literary revolution. Zhao Yuanren, Qu Qiubai, Xu Dishan, Yan Yangchu, Ye Shengtao, Chen Mengjia, Tang LAN and other linguists and writers, with their respective backgrounds and positions, are involved in this "revolution", and their different "phonization" practices make the pursuit of "sound", It is integrated into different language strategies such as Romanization of Chinese characters, Latinization of Chinese characters, May Fourth vernacular discourse, stylistic text and new phonetic characters. In this process, the demands of the Chinese character revolution also echoed and overlapped with the tense process of the Chinese national revolution in the 20th century, and linked up with the national salvation, the Anti-Japanese War, the literacy movement and mass education, showing a left-wing temperament. Finally, the Chinese character revolution came to an end temporarily under the global background of "anti-colonialism and anti-imperialism", and "Chinese Grammatology", which is full of post-structural theoretical critical power based on the tradition of Chinese primary school, is also emerging at this moment.
