Luo Xin is a professor at the Center for Ancient Chinese History and Department of History at Peking University. His research interests include the history of the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties and the history of ancient Chinese peoples. His professional works include A Study of the Names of the Middle and Ancient Northern Ethnic Groups (2009), The Emperor of the Northern Wei on the Black Felt (2014), The Long Life: A Palace Lady of the Northern Wei Dynasty and Her Times (2022), and his travel literature work From Dadu to Shangdu: Rediscovering China on the Ancient Road (2018), The Moon Shines over the Amu Darya (2022), and a collection of scholarly essays, Rebels Who Have Done Nothing: Criticism, Doubt, and Imagination (2019).

John Steinbeck (1902-1968) was an American writer who won the Nobel Prize for Literature and the Pulitzer Prize. He wrote many works, including Of Mice and Men (1937), The Grapes of Wrath (1939), East of Eden (1952), and Take Charlie On a Trip: Rediscovering America (1962).
About the Translator
Dr. Luan Qi, majoring in English Language and Literature, has taught in Northeast Normal University, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, worked in Fudan University Press, the Commercial Press, and is also the executive director of Shanghai Dictionary Society and vice chairman of the National Bilingual Dictionary Professional Committee of Chinese Dictionary Society. He is now a full-time translator.
