A brief introduction to First Choice

This is not a traditional story of women breaking down prejudices and climbing the corporate ladder. Indra Nooyi was born into a traditional family in India. At a time when most women in India would marry and have children in their teens, she was lucky to have a supportive family that valued education and took the first step to change her life through education.

In 1994, when Nooyi joined PepsiCo, the number of female ceos in the top 100 companies was zero. However, the Indian girl got a competing olive branch from General Electric and Pepsi - she turned down GE Jack Welch's invitation to join Pepsi, becoming the first female CEO of Pepsi since its founding in 1898, and held the position for 12 years.

She was once discriminated against in the workplace because of her identity as a minority and a woman, but she overcame setbacks and became more courageous, leading Pepsi to achieve a qualitative leap in diversity and inclusion, and proving the social value of women. She fought back against criticism to divest restaurant businesses including Pizza Hut, KFC and other star brands, and spearheaded a $10 billion acquisition of health food brands. Propose a long-term strategy of "purposeful performance" to create economic benefits while rewarding the communities they serve; Family-friendly policies for the first time; Creating the first global flexible work schedule; Extensive use of cross-cultural advisory teams. She focused on women's status and power and made stopping sexual harassment a top priority for the company. At the time of retirement, PepsiCo employees' satisfaction with their work environment rose to 82%, and the company's net income increased by more than 80%.

As a high-profile female CEO, Nooyi talked about how to balance work and family. She believes that each stage requires making the most important choice in the moment. She shares her own solutions for readers at each stage, as well as the enormous amount of systemic support and self-sacrifice it took to make it all happen.

More women leaders also mean a healthier, richer, and more equal society. Since her retirement, Nooyi has continued to advocate for women's equal role in decision-making, calling on businesses and governments to optimize the care ecosystem to help women succeed in their organizations. To unlock the full potential of the economy and help families thrive, she has been on her way.
