R.奥斯汀·弗里曼（Richard Austin Freeman，1862―1943），英国作家。生于伦敦苏活区，裁缝之子，大学时专攻医学，毕业后前往非洲黄金海岸的英国殖民地行医，长达七年，后因为健康原因回国，不再从事专职的医务工作。在写了一本颇受好评的游记之后，弗里曼开始转向专业写作。他初与友人共同以“Clifford Ashdown”（克里福德·阿什当）为笔名出版了一些犯罪小说。之后“单飞”，创作了以桑戴克为主角的系列推理小说，《红拇指印》是其中的第一部，发表于1907年。

There was a diamond heist at Hornby's, and all that was left in the safe was a few red liquids and a receipt with a clear bloody fingerprint on it. Through the police comparison, the owner of the fingerprint is Mr. Hornby's nephew Robin, he accused the polite young man as a suspect.
Robin claims that he never stole the diamond, and he finds Thorndike, hoping to clear his name. Can we identify the killer and explain everything based on the fingerprints at the crime scene? Is there a hidden truth beneath the obvious?
Richard Austin Freeman (1862-1943) was an English writer. Born in Soho, London, the son of a tailor, he studied medicine at university, and after graduation went to the British colony of Gold Coast, Africa, to practice medicine for seven years, after which he returned home for health reasons and no longer engaged in full-time medical work. After writing a well-received travel book, Freeman turned to professional writing. He first published crime novels with a friend under the pseudonym Clifford Ashdown. After that, he went solo and wrote a series of mystery novels featuring Thorndike, the first of which was the Red Thumbprint, published in 1907.
