21世纪10年代以来，西方国家出现了右翼政治力量崛起、选民政治分歧加大、政党体制稳定性下降等现象。代表性的事件包括：2016年，特朗普当选美国总统，英国公投“脱欧”；2017年，法国极右翼代表人物玛丽娜·勒庞首次进入总统选举的第二轮，德国成立仅5年的极右翼政党德国选择党一跃成为国会第三大党；2021年初，大批支持时任总统特朗普的示威者冲击美国国会大厦；2023年底，荷兰极右翼政党自由党意外赢得议会选举；等等。作者将西方世界的上述诸种变化统称为“西方政治的新现实”。

这种“新现实”究竟意味着什么，到底由何种因素驱动，又会给西方与整个世界带来怎样的政治影响？本书就试图回答上述问题。与此同时，作者也不忘梳理西方学界的现有理论，在观察与分析“西方政治的新现实”基础上，选取了7位代表性西方思想家及其作品，以比较政治学的视角与之进行学术对话，深入剖析西方民主的多样性及其面临的挑战，并讨论了西方政治可能的新趋势。

复旦大学国际关系与公共事务学院教授，主要研究领域为政治理论、比较政治与政治史，著有《民主崩溃的政治学》（英文版Politics of Democratic Breakdown由英国劳特利奇出版社出版）、《政治学通识》、《民主的逻辑》、《抵达：一部政治演化史》、《儒法道：早期中国的政治想象》等，被评选为“《经济观察报》2018年度致敬作者”。作品先后入选“《新京报》2014年度社科类好书”“第一财经2023年度十佳图书”“搜狐文化好书之选2023年度十大好书”“凤凰网2023年度十大推荐图书”“腾讯读书2023年人文社科十大原创好书”。

Since the 2010s, Western countries have witnessed the rise of right-wing political forces, increasing political divisions among voters, and declining stability of political party systems. Typical events include: in 2016, Donald Trump was elected president of the United States, and the British referendum "Brexit"; In 2017, Marine Le Pen, the representative of the far-right in France, entered the second round of the presidential election for the first time, and the far-right Alternative for Germany party, which was established only five years ago, rose to the third largest party in the National Assembly. In early 2021, a large number of demonstrators supporting then-President Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol; At the end of 2023, the Dutch far-right Freedom Party unexpectedly won parliamentary elections; Let's wait. The author refers to these changes in the Western world as "the new reality of Western politics."

What does this "new reality" really mean, what are the factors driving it, and what are the political implications for the West and the world at large? This book attempts to answer these questions. At the same time, the author does not forget to comb the existing theories in Western academia. On the basis of observation and analysis of "the new reality of Western politics", the author selects seven representative Western thinkers and their works, conducts academic dialogue with them from the perspective of comparative politics, deeply analyzes the diversity of Western democracy and the challenges it faces, and discusses the possible new trends in Western politics.

Bao Gangsheng

Professor, School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University. His research interests include political theory, comparative politics and political history. He is the author of Politics of Democratic Breakdown (published in English by Routledge, UK), Politics in General, The Logic of Democracy, Arrival: A History of Political Evolution, Confucianism and Taoism: The Political Imagination of Early China, etc., was selected as "The Economic Observer's 2018 Annual Tribute Author".
