东汉时代形成了中国专制社会的基础，东汉史对于中国史具有重大的历史意义。本书从解释秦汉帝国的政治、社会体制如何发生质变，又如何产生后面的六朝时代这一问题出发，将皇帝统治方式、外戚宦官与儒家官僚间的政治合作与斗争，以及地方社会的结构变化等内容相关联，探究东汉时代社会地方社会的发展、变迁如何改变东汉国家的政治，国家统治进而又如何改变了地方社会。
作者简介
东晋次，1944年生于三重县纪伊长岛町。名古屋大学大学院文学研究科博士课程满期退学，历史学博士。历任爱媛大学教育学部讲师、助教授和三重大学教育学部教授。研究方向为东亚史、秦汉社会政治史等，出版有《后汉时期的政治与社会》（《後漢時代の政治と社会》，名古屋大学出版会，1995年），《中国中世史研究续编》（中国中世史研究会编《中国中世史研究続編》，京都大学学术出版会，1995年）（合著）等著作。
Content introduction
The Eastern Han Dynasty formed the foundation of China's autocratic society, and the history of the Eastern Han Dynasty is of great historical significance to Chinese history. Starting from explaining how the political and social system of the Qin and Han empires changed in quality and how the following six dynasties emerged, the book relates the emperor's ruling mode, the political cooperation and struggle between the eunuchs and the Confucian bureaucrats, and the structural changes of local society, and explores how the development and changes of local society in the Eastern Han Dynasty changed the politics of the Eastern Han state. How state rule, in turn, has changed local societies.
About the author
Toho Shinji was born in Kii Nagashima, Mie Prefecture in 1944. Graduated from the Graduate School of Literature, Nagoya University with a Ph.D. in history. He was a lecturer, assistant professor, Faculty of Education, Ehime University, and Professor, Faculty of Education, Mie University. His research interests include East Asian history and social and political history of the Qin and Han Dynasties, etc. His published works include Politics and Society in the Later Han Dynasty (の Politics と Society in the Later Han Dynasty, Nagoya University Press Association, 1995), Continuation of Studies on the Medieval History of China (Edited by the Chinese Society of Medieval History, Edited by the Chinese Society of Medieval History, Kyoto University Academic Press Association, 1995) (co-authored), etc.
