本书回顾了文学理论与常识问所发生的种种冲突。理论拒斥常识所包含的成见：“文学”即本质，“作者”乃文本意义之权威，作品以“世界”为主题，“阅读”是读者与作者对话，“风格”是选择写作方式，“文学史”是逐一列举大作家，“价值”是文学经典的客观属性。理论动摇了常识，但常识也抗住了攻击。理论为了灭掉对手常有过激言论，结果有可能使自己陷入悖论。因此，我们今天有必要重新审视文学理论在法国国内外风靡一时的那个时代，并对其做个总结。

安托万·孔帕尼翁，索邦大学和哥伦比亚大学法国文学教授，著有《第二手资料?引述手法》（Seuil,1979）、《文学第三共和国》（Seuil,1983）、《现代性五悖论》（Seuil,1990）和《反现代者》（Gallimard,2005）等。
Content introduction
This book reviews the conflicts between literary theory and common sense. The theory rejects the preconceptions contained in common sense: "literature" is the essence, "author" is the authority of the meaning of the text, the theme of the work is "the world", "reading" is the dialogue between the reader and the author, "style" is the choice of writing mode, "literary history" is the list of great writers, and "value" is the objective attribute of the literary Canon. Theory has shaken common sense, but common sense has also resisted attacks. Theories often overreact in order to neutralize their opponents, and as a result, they may lead themselves into paradoxes. Therefore, it is necessary for us today to revisit the era when literary theory was all the rage in France and abroad, and to make a summary of it.

Antoine Compagnon, Professor of French Literature at the Sorbonne and Columbia University, He is the author of "Secondary Sources? Quoting Techniques" (Seuil,1979), "The Third Republic of Literature" (Seuil,1983), "The Five Paradoxes of Modernity" (Seuil,1990), and "The Antimodernizer" (Gallimard,2005).
