　　川北稔，1940年生于日本大阪，历史学者。曾任大阪大学文学部教授、京都产业大学文化学部客座教授、佛教大学特聘教授。现为大阪大学名誉教授。

　　主要著作有《工业化的历史前提——帝国与士绅》（岩波书店）、《弄潮者们的英国史——从骑士之国到绅士之国》（平凡社）、《民众的大英帝国——近代英国社会与美洲移民》（岩波现代文库）、《砂糖的世界史》（岩波青少年新书）、《美国是谁的？——威尔士亲王马多克的神话》（NTT出版）等。

This book is a primer on modern British history by the Japanese historian Minoru Kawasaki. Different from the traditional method of writing based on the chronology of events, this book explores the relevance of the changes of modern British cities in an expanding world system and today's globalized society from the perspective of people's lives, integrating different perspectives such as sociology, economics, and culturology. While exploring "why Britain has succeeded", it also focuses on analyzing the problem of "why Britain has declined", and compares it with the "lost two decades" of Japan's economic stagnation, pointing out that people's psychological "sense of decline" and real "recession" are not the same thing, and re-examines the psychological paranoia behind the "economic growth myth".

Minoru Kawasaki, born 1940 in Osaka, Japan, is a historian. He has served as Professor of the Department of Literature at Osaka University, visiting professor of the Department of Culture at Kyoto Sangyo University, and distinguished professor at Buddhist University. He is an honorary professor at Osaka University.

His major books include The Historical Premise of Industrialization: Empire and Gentry (Iwata Bookshop), The History of the Tide Riders in Britain - From a Nation of Knights to a Nation of Gentlemen (Heifansha), The British Empire of the People - Modern British Society and American Immigrants (Iwata Modern Library), A History of the World of Sugar (Iwata's New book for Teenagers), and Whose America is It? Doctor of History, graduated from the School of History of Nankai University, currently professor of the Department of Education of Tianjin Normal University, master tutor, member of the Professional Committee of History Teaching of Chinese Education Association.
