Content introduction
Why did a Vietnam War hero, with a successful family and career three decades after leaving the battlefield, die of remorse and regret?
How can a young woman working as a humanitarian aid worker in Africa find the courage to continue her difficult work despite war, corruption, poverty and the threat of disease?
Why would a doctor who was betrayed and tortured by his friends during the Cultural Revolution choose to put down his sword gently when given the chance to take revenge?
Renowned American anthropologist and psychiatrist Arthur Kleiman spent years observing and experiencing these "painful experiences" in detail, and revealed with profound insight that it is really important to face the crises and uncertainties of life, and transcend the limitations imposed by local values.
