Content introduction

In 2011, the book "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother" by Amy Chua, a Chinese law professor at Yale University, set off a huge wave in China, and was also controversial and questioned in the United States. The book describes the author's strict and even some "abnormal" parenting methods, even in China, which believes in "genius under the stick", parents find it difficult to accept. The term tiger mother became popular as a term for strict parents.

Ten years later, Tiger Mother's new battle song - "Upward mobility" magnifies the small family story to the level of the overall "elite elite group", with detailed statistics, profound research and analysis, and summarizes the "three elements" of successful family rearing for those who were born and did not get a good hand, but broke through their birth and succeeded in upward mobility after growing up.

The Census Bureau's survey confirms that the incomes of 4.7 million Asian immigrant families are steadily rising, and the growth of the younger generation is increasing year by year. This coincides with their rise in academic and social status. Back then, these Asians left their homes and traveled thousands of miles to the United States with no money and no knowledge of the local language, but were able to establish themselves in the upper middle class within a generation or two. So what is it that makes upward mobility possible?

Just like the refined education model we often say now, it emphasizes strict system and discipline, advocates tempering character and honing will, and the tiger mother called the family education model she summed up the "three elements" culture, with these three elements to educate and cultivate children, regardless of birth, regardless of the environment, regardless of the conditions of the original family, there is the possibility of upward mobility. These three elements are superiority, insecurity and impulse control.

With the combination of these three elements, both parents and children are often motivated to succeed: not by luck or connections, but by hard work. When you properly understand and apply these three elements in your life, you are no longer bound by any particular definition of success, and upward mobility is alive and well.
