全书分十个主题描述了崇祯帝在位十七年的末世图景。开篇于崇祯帝的就帝处境、勤政除阉党、力求中兴的夙夜焦劳，讲述了袁崇焕、孙承宗、温体仁、周延儒等主要大臣起落成败中的复杂党争，暴露了崇祯处理国事的能力不足，加之农民起义大火蔓延和后金兵临城下，崇祯帝回天无力，终于发出朕非亡国之君、臣皆亡国之臣的推责之语。写作手法上以线带面，深入剖析，使人如临其境、得窥全貌。
作者简介
陈梧桐，著名明史学家。1935年11月出生于福建安溪，2023年5月31日在北京逝世。北京师范大学历史学院“985工程”特聘教授、中央民族大学教授、人民教育出版社《少儿国学》主编、中国明史学会顾问、朱元璋研究会顾问。出版有《朱元璋研究》、《洪武皇帝大传》（获北京市第三届哲学社会科学优秀成果二等奖）、《朱元璋传》、《朱元璋大传》、《晚明悲歌：大明王朝灭亡之谜》、《黄河传》（获第十三届中国图书奖）、《明史十讲》（第一作者）等多部著作。参编、主编人民教育出版社出版的中学历史教科书多部。1992年获国务院政府特殊津贴。

About the author
Chen Wutong, famous historian of Ming Dynasty. He was born in Anxi, Fujian Province in November 1935 and died in Beijing on May 31, 2023. Distinguished professor of "985 Project", School of History, Beijing Normal University, Professor of Minzu University of China, chief editor of Children's Sinology, People's Education Press, Consultant of Chinese Ming History Society, consultant of Zhu Yuanzhang Research Society. He has published many books, such as Research on Zhu Yuanzhang, Biography of Emperor Hongwu (Second Prize of the Third Beijing Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievements), Biography of Zhu Yuanzhang, Biography of Zhu Yuanzhang, Tragic Song of the Late Ming Dynasty: Mystery of the Fall of the Great Ming Dynasty, Biography of the Yellow River (13th China Book Award), Ten Lectures on the History of the Ming Dynasty (first author) and so on. Participated in editing and editor-in-chief of many middle school history textbooks published by the People's Education Press. In 1992, he received special government subsidy from The State Council.
