托马斯•哈里斯出生于美国的田纳西州，就读于位于韦科市的贝勒大学。在校期间他在当地的《韦科论坛先驱报》工作，担任记者，后移居纽约，在美国联合通讯社工作，负责编采美国和墨西哥的罪案。记者的经历让托马斯•哈里斯更加敏锐地观察社会，也为其创作打下了坚实的基础。1981年，沉默的羔羊系列处女作《红龙》出版，1988年，延续《红龙》中的莱克特博士这一角色的系列第二部《沉默的羔羊》出版，荣获《纽约时报》、《出版家周刊》排行榜的双料冠军，进榜达数十周之久，1989年获安东尼奖年度小说，1991年被改编为同名电影，一举荣获1992年第64届奥斯卡五项重量级大奖，成为奥斯卡历史上第三部囊括五项大奖的影片。1999年，该系列第三部小说《汉尼拔》终于面世，轰动全球，2001年，《汉尼拔》电影上映，成为2001年票房zui早破亿的电影。2006年，食人魔前传《少年汉尼拔》出版，也象征着该系列的完结。

【 About the author 】
Thomas Harris was born in the American state of Tennessee and studied at Baylor University in WACO. While in school, he worked as a reporter for the local WACO Tribune Herald before moving to New York to work for the Associated Press, covering crime in the United States and Mexico. The experience of being a journalist made Thomas Harris observe society more keenly and laid a solid foundation for his writing. In 1981, the first novel in the Silence of the Lambs series, "Red Dragon", was published. In 1988, the second novel in the series, "The Silence of the Lambs", which continued the role of Dr. Lecter in the Red Dragon, was published. It won the double champion of the New York Times and Publishers Weekly, and stayed on the list for several decades. In 1991, it was adapted into a film of the same name, which won five heavyweight awards at the 64th Academy Awards in 1992, becoming the third film in Oscar history to win five awards. In 1999, the third novel of the series "Hannibal" finally came out, a sensation around the world, in 2001, "Hannibal" movie was released, and became the first film to break the 100 million box office in 2001. In 2006, the Ogre prequel Young Hannibal was published, marking the end of the series.
