　　1991年，布鲁诺·拉图尔说服米歇尔·塞尔进行了五场访谈，主题分别为“成长”“方法”“证明”“批评的终结”“智慧”，讲述塞尔的成长经历和学术思考。塞尔以特立独行的思维方式著称，他的思想总是穿梭于不同时空、学科，在看似不相干的事物之间建立联系，这让许多读者在得到启发之余不免感到困惑。此书的一大目的即理清这些困惑，让读者更便捷地了解塞尔的思想。

　　米歇尔·塞尔（MichelSerres，1930—2019），法国哲学家、思想家。船员之子。年轻时入海军学校，后转入巴黎高等师范学校。曾任巴黎第一大学、美国斯坦福大学等校教授。1990年当选为法兰西学术院院士。主要著作有《赫尔墨斯》系列、《万物本原》等。塞尔以极具原创性的方式将科学、哲学和人文学结合，在哲学、数学、文学、物理、生物、航海等多学科知识之间思考，对哲学、科学史、社会学等领域有深远影响。

　　布鲁诺·拉图尔（BrunoLatour，1947-2022），法国哲学家、人类学家、社会学家。曾任巴黎高等矿冶学院、巴黎政治大学教授。主要著作有《实验室生活：科学事实的建构过程》（与伍尔加合著）、《我们从未现代过：对称性人类学论集》等，是科技与社会研究（STS）、行动者网络理论（ANT）的重要开创者。

In 1991, Bruno Latour persuaded Michel Searle to conduct five interviews on the topics of "Growing up," "methods," "Proof," "the End of Criticism," and "wisdom," about Searle's upbringing and academic thinking. Searle is known for his maverick way of thinking, traveling across time and disciplines to make connections between seemingly disparate things, which has left many readers baffled as well as enlightened. One of the aims of this book is to clear up the confusion and make Searle's thoughts more accessible to the reader.

As a primer for Searle, readers can learn about the impact of the war on him (and on French thought after World War II), how the atomic bomb changed his academic direction, his ideas and practices that combined science and the humanities, and his views on Lucretius, Leibniz, Weil, Bashara, and others.

MichelSerres (1930-2019) was a French philosopher and thinker. Son of a crew member. He attended the naval school as a young man and later transferred to the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris. He was a professor at University of Paris I and Stanford University in the United States. He was elected a member of the Academie Francaise in 1990. His main works include the Hermes series and Everything in its Original Form. Searle combined science, philosophy and the humanities in a highly original way, thinking between philosophy, mathematics, literature, physics, biology, navigation and other multidisciplinary knowledge, and had a profound impact on philosophy, the history of science, sociology and other fields.

BrunoLatour (1947-2022) was a French philosopher, anthropologist, and sociologist. He was a professor at Ecole Superieure de Mineralogy and Sciences Po in Paris. He is the author of Laboratory Life: The Construction of Scientific Fact (co-authored with Woolgar), We Have Never Been Modern: A Collection of Symmetries, and is an important pioneer of Science, Technology and Society Studies (STS) and actor network theory (ANT).
