It was Yom Kippur, half a century ago, when the Fourth Middle East War broke out and Israel returned to war. A Jew far from his native land, and the rock star of his time and contemporary era, Leonard Cohen comes to the front line, hoping to find his way out of the trough of life in his native land, where death is near, where music can penetrate the heart. He dedicated an unparalleled "concert tour" to the Israeli front. With each performance, his deep voice, calm melody, resonance beyond words, and his unique charm mended every war-torn soul. He used his music to bring salvation to Israel in 1973 and has since become a cultural symbol of Yom Kippur; He, too, finds salvation and a way through this past.
Based on Cohen's unpublished manuscript, author Marty Friedman spent years searching for and interviewing people who met Cohen during the war, restoring Cohen's little-known saga and depicting the other side of the war in a cruel but tender story.
