作者简介
许倬云
1930年生，江苏无锡人。著名历史学家，匹兹堡大学历史系荣休讲座教授，台湾“中研院”院士。
1962年获芝加哥大学博士学位。先后执教于台湾大学、匹兹堡大学，受聘为香港中文大学、夏威夷大学、杜克大学、香港科技大学、南京大学讲座教授。1986年当选美国人文学社荣誉会士，2004年获美国亚洲学会杰出贡献奖，2020年获“全球华人国学终身成就奖”，2023年获凤凰卫视“终身成就奖”。
代表作有《西周史》《汉代农业》《万古江河》《中国文化的精神》《说中国》《中国古代文化的特质》等。

"I want to see China from the world, and then see the world from China."
Around this beginning, the famous historian Xu Zhuoyun, at the age of 90, faced up to the difficulties, eight drafts, and compiled a biography of the Chinese civilization from growth to formation. The author jumps out of the narrative of the internal evolution of Chinese culture, and makes a new induction and arrangement of the historical interaction inside and outside China from the perspective of "big history" and the way of thinking, and reproduces the track of the interaction and integration of people, ethnic groups and cultures on the land of China.
In the long-term narrative of more than five thousand years, the author, through a detailed analysis of how China's local culture is intertwined and how China responds to the impact from the world, finally reveals the core and mystery of the Chinese civilization that can continue to this day and will continue forever, and sees a grounded and oriented China with the heart of a child.
About the author
Xu Zhuoyun
Born in 1930 in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. He is a distinguished historian, Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Pittsburgh, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Research in Taiwan.
He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1962. He has taught at Taiwan University and the University of Pittsburgh, and has been appointed as Chair professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Hawaii, Duke University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Nanjing University. He was elected an honorary Fellow of the American Society of Humanities in 1986, the Outstanding Contribution Award of the Asian Society of America in 2004, the "Lifetime Achievement Award of Global Chinese Studies" in 2020, and the "Lifetime Achievement Award" of Phoenix TV in 2023.
His representative works include the History of Western Zhou Dynasty, Han Dynasty Agriculture, Ancient Rivers, The Spirit of Chinese Culture, Saying China, and the characteristics of Ancient Chinese Culture.
