　　陈晓律，师从著名英国史专家蒋孟引，南京大学历史系教授，博士生导师，中国欧洲学会历史分会副会长，中国世界近代现代史研究会副会长，江苏省世界史学会名誉会长，中国英国史学会副会长，中国南海研究协同创新中心周边平台平台长。专著《在传统与变革之间──英国文化模式溯源》获国家教委人文社科优秀成果奖一等奖，专著《英国福利制度的由来与发展》获国家教委第二届人文社科优秀成果奖二等奖。此外在《世界历史》《南京大学学报》《世界史研究动态》《史学理论研究》《当代世界与社会主义》《史学集刊》《史学月刊》《读书》《国际学术研究》《江海学刊》《历史教学问题》《探索与争鸣》等刊物上发表论文80余篇。

Europe, as a culturally unified but politically divided unit of civilization, is the birthplace of modern nationalism and the nation-state. Beginning in 1500, the rise of the nation state led to the division of Europe and its post-World War II reintegration as one of the most unique phenomena in world history.

This book clearly combs the history of the development of major European nation-states: Spain is wandering on the road from tradition to modernity, seeking self-consistency; Italy's integration into the European integration, the implementation of regional unbalanced development, North-South issues and other implementation; Britain completed the task of transforming from an absolutist monarchy to a modern nation state, and fell into the confusion of the return of nationalism in the twilight of the empire. About the author

Chen Xiaolu, who studied under the famous British history expert Jiang Mengyin, professor of History Department of Nanjing University, doctoral supervisor, Vice President of History Branch of Chinese Society of Europe, Vice president of Chinese Society of Modern World History, Honorary president of Jiangsu World History Society, Vice president of British History Society of China, Director of platform around China Collaborative Innovation Center for South China Sea Studies. The monograph "Between Tradition and Change: Tracing the Source of British Cultural Model" won the first prize of the National Education Commission Humanities and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award, and the monograph "The Origin and Development of the British Welfare System" won the second prize of the National Education Commission Humanities and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award. In addition, he has published more than 80 papers in journals such as World History, Journal of Nanjing University, Research Trends in World History, Historical Theory Research, Contemporary World and Socialism, Historical Collection, Monthly Journal of Historical Science, Shu Shu, International Academic Research, Jianghai Journal, Problems in History Teaching, Exploration and Contention, etc.
