In the vortex of global change in the 18th century,

The history of the world experienced by one woman in her own life

Elizabeth Marsh was the most unconventional traveler of the 18th century, who used her extraordinary and turbulent life to open a window into a wonderful world of dramatic change.

Born in Jamaica, Marsh made her mark in London, Gibraltar and Menorca, visited the Horn of Africa and Rio de Janeiro, explored the Indian subcontinent and was imprisoned in the Deep Palace of the Sultan of Morocco. She was involved in land speculation in Florida and international smuggling, and was involved in slavery several times. Her life is also part of a larger story, the 18th-century Enlightenment, imperial wars, intercontinental trade, slave trade and maritime migration that profoundly changed the world and reshaped the course of her life. From the point of view of a small woman, the book weaves individual experiences with grand epics, leading the reader on a unique journey through history.
