Silver has played an important role on the stage of human civilization since it was mined in and around Anatolia more than 5,000 years ago. Without the wealth brought to Athens by the silver mines of Laurion, ancient Greece might not have become the cradle of Western civilization; Had Spain not taken control of Bolivia's silver mines, economic development in Europe might have taken on a different complexion; Without silver, ancient Asian trade relations with the West might have taken on other forms.
Silver is a symbol of wealth and power, an indispensable element of modern industry, and a witness of world civilization. Silver has had an important impact on the economy, culture, science and technology of human society. In Silver and Civilization, a history of human civilization from the perspective of "silver" unfolds slowly in front of us.
