Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (15 October 1844-25 August 1900) was a German philosopher. Nietzsche was born on 15 October 1844 in the village of Loken, near the town of Leken in the Prussian state of Saxony, to a family of village priests. His writings provide a wide range of criticism and discussion of religion, morality, modern culture, philosophy, and science. He writes in a unique style, often using the techniques of aphorisms and paradoxes. Nietzsche has a great influence on the development of later philosophy, especially in existentialism and postmodernism. He resigned in 1879 due to health problems and suffered from mental illness. In 1889 Nietzsche suffered a mental breakdown from which he never recovered, living in the care of his mother and sister until his death on August 25, 1900.
