陈烨轩,历史学博士,现为北京大学历史学系博雅博士后,研究方向为古代中外关系史、隋唐史。在《北京大学学报》《中华文史论丛》《西域研究》《唐研究》等刊物发表论文多篇。

How did medieval Arabs come to China to do business? How did the Chinese go to Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean during the Tang and Song dynasties? Using detailed handed down documents, modern inscriptions and commercial documents, as well as archaeological data of shipwrecks, the author tries to break the traditional historical view of chronology, and examines the long historical development of the maritime Silk Road from the 8th century to the early 13th century from the perspective of merchants moving from east to west. This book reconstructs the voyages of Arab and Chinese merchants, analyzes the organization of merchant ships and the management of goods, Outlines the commercial features of coastal societies, explores the international trade patterns before modern times, and thus realizes the great historical significance and influence of the ancient maritime Silk Road to the countries and regions along the route.
About the author
Chen Yexuan, Ph.D., is now a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of History, Peking University. His research interests include the history of Sino-foreign relations in ancient times and the history of Sui and Tang Dynasties. He has published many papers in journals such as Journal of Peking University, Collection of Chinese Literature and History, Western Region Studies and Tang Studies.
