　　《群鸟嘤嘤：法国皇家植物园鸟类图鉴》是基于路易十五时期法国皇家植物园收藏鸟类标本的博物学巨制，由博物学家布封主持，鸟类学家、雕刻家弗朗索瓦-尼古拉·马蒂内绘制、雕刻。该项目得到了法国科学界许多学者的大力协助，如路易斯-让-玛丽·道本顿、菲利普·盖诺·德·蒙贝尔拉德等。

　　原版书首版于1765年，由巴黎出版商庞库克作为布封《自然史》鸟类卷的插画汇编，分十册陆续出版。全套共有1008幅图，包含973幅鸟类画、35幅其他动物画（28幅昆虫、4幅珊瑚和3幅两栖和爬行类动物），其中有些鸟类（大海雀、旅鸽等）已灭绝，我们可以通过两位大师的眼睛去了解这些已经不存在于世的生命。

　　后浪此次精心重制有三大亮点，首先，对十卷内容进行精选、精编、精修，将篇幅缩减为570余幅，在保持画面干净的同时，不破坏其原有的古典画风，其次，与最新的鸟类科学相接轨，以郑光美院士、IOC、IUCN等鸟类学权威为依据，为书中600余种鸟类尽数定种、重新排序，并提供鸟类部位辨识、中国可见与否、濒危程度等信息。最后，采用小32开方脊精装、铜版纸全彩印刷，呈现为“小字典”式口袋工具书，趁手、小巧，带来丰富、轻松的阅读体验。

　　布封（Georges-Louis Leclerc,Comte de Buffon），法国博物学家、数学家、生物学家、启蒙运动巨擘，影响了之后两代博物学家，如达尔文、居维叶、拉马克。他从32岁起担任皇家植物园主管，研究欧洲所有有关自然界的知识，耗尽毕生精力写作《自然史》，人称“蒙巴尔的普林尼”，为科学的专业化和大众化做出了巨大的贡献。巴尔扎克将布封奉为“自然界最美的天才之一”。在中国，布封的多篇自然散文入选小学语文教材，如《松鼠》《莺》《天鹅》《马》。

　　弗朗索瓦–尼古拉·马蒂内（François-Nicolas Martinet，1731—1800），法国工程师、雕刻家、鸟类学家，御用版画师。他的鸟类画对于现已灭绝物种的分类和鉴定具有重要意义。通常，他的版画制作分为五步：作画，把画刻在铜版上，刷墨水，印在纸上，手工上色。

The Birds of the Royal Botanic Gardens: A Guide to the Birds of the Royal Botanic Gardens of France is a masterpiece of naturalistic work based on the collection of bird specimens at the Royal Botanic Gardens of Louis XV, presided over by the naturalist Bouffon and painted and carved by the ornithologist and sculptor Francois-Nicolas Martinet. The project was greatly assisted by many scholars in the French scientific community, such as Louis-Jean-Marie Daubenton and Philippe Gueno de Montbelade.

The original edition was first published in 1765 by the Parisian publisher Pomcock as a compilation of illustrations for the bird volume of Bouffon's Natural History, published in ten separate volumes. The complete set consists of 1008 paintings, including 973 paintings of birds, 35 paintings of other animals (28 insects, 4 corals, and 3 amphibians and reptiles), some of which are extinct birds (great auks, passenger pigeons, etc.), and we can see these no longer exist in the world through the eyes of the two masters.

There are three highlights in the meticulous remaking of Houlong: first, the content of the ten volumes is selected, edited and refined, reducing the length to more than 570 pieces, while keeping the picture clean, without destroying its original classical painting style; second, it is in line with the latest bird science, based on Academician Zheng Guangmei, IOC, IUCN and other ornithological authorities. More than 600 species of birds in the book are identified and reordered, and information such as bird location identification, visibility in China, and endangered degree is provided. Finally, the use of small 32 square ridge hardcover, coated paper full color printing, presented as a "small dictionary" pocket reference book, while hand, small, bring rich and relaxed reading experience.

About the author

Orges -Louis Leclerc (Comte de Buffon) was a French naturalist, mathematician, biologist, and giant of the Enlightenment who influenced the next two generations of naturalists, such as Darwin, Cuvier, and Lamarque. He served as director of the Royal Botanic Gardens from the age of 32, studied all the knowledge about the natural world in Europe, and spent his life writing the Natural History, known as Pliny of Montbaal, which made a great contribution to the professionalization and popularization of science. Balzac hailed Bouffon as "one of the most beautiful geniuses of nature." In China, many of Bufeng's nature essays have been selected into primary school Chinese textbooks, such as "Squirrel", "Warbler", "Swan" and "Horse".

Francois-Nicolas Martinet (1731-1800) was a French engineer, sculptor, ornithologist, and royal printmaker. His drawings of birds were important for the classification and identification of now extinct species. Usually, his printmaking is divided into five steps: painting, engraving the picture on the copper plate, brushing it with ink, printing it on paper, and coloring it by hand.
