Arthur Hailey was born in 1920 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England, and joined the British Air Force after the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, until settling in Canada in 1947. His published works have achieved great success in Europe and the United States. Eleven of his works have been translated into 40 languages, with a total print run of more than 170 million copies. Arthur Haley, who says his brain "spins stories all the time," specializes in turning everyday stories into compelling novels. He often sets stories about important industries in American society, such as finance, transportation, and the news media. Most of the plot revolves around the struggle between advanced and backward, innovation and conservative, and the protagonists are mostly tech-savvy, career-minded, and resolute intellectuals.
