绫辻行人一九六〇年十二月二十三日出生于日本京都，毕业于名校京都大学教育系。在校期间加入了推理小说研究会社团，社团的其他成员还包括法月纶太郎、我孙子武丸、小野不由美等。而创作了《十二国记》的小野不由美在后来成为了绫辻行人的妻子。
二十世纪八十年代是日本推理文学的大变革年代。极力主张“复兴本格”的大师岛田庄司曾多次来到京都大学进行演讲和指导，传播自己的创作理念。绫辻行人作为当时推理社团的骨干，深深收到岛田庄司的影响和启发，不遗余力地投入到新派本格小说的创作当中。
一九八七年，经过岛田庄司的修订和引荐，绫辻行人发表了处女作《十角馆事件》。他的笔名“绫辻行人”是与岛田庄司商讨过后确定下来的，而作品中的侦探“岛田洁”的原型也来自岛田庄司和他笔下的名侦探“御手洗洁”。以这部作品的发表为标志，日本推理文学进入了全新的“新本格时代”，而一九八七年也被称为“新本格元年”。
其后，绫辻行人陆续发表“馆系列”作品，截止到二〇一二年已经出版了九部。其中，《钟表馆事件》获得了第四十五届推理作家协会奖，《暗黑馆事件》则被誉为“新五大奇书”之一。“馆系列”奠定了绫辻行人宗师级地位，使其成为可以比肩江户川乱步、横沟正史、松本清张和岛田庄司的划时代推理作家。

Tsuji was born on December 23, 1960 in Kyoto, Japan. He graduated from the prestigious Kyoto University. While in school, I joined the Mystery Novel Research Society, and the other members of the society include Farsuki Runtaro, my grandson Takemaru, Ono Fumi and so on. Ono, who created the Twelve Kingdoms, later became the wife of Tsuji.
The 1980s was a period of great change in Japanese inference literature. Shimada Shoji, a master who strongly advocates the revival of Benge, has come to Kyoto University many times to give lectures and guidance and spread his creative ideas. As the backbone of the reasoning society at that time, Tsuji Ayaya was deeply influenced and inspired by Shoji Shimada, and spared no effort to devote himself to the creation of new Papengarre novels.
In 1987, after the revision and introduction of Shoji Shimada, Tsuji Ayaya published his debut novel, The Tokakukan Incident. His pseudonym, Tsuji Ayada, was decided upon after discussions with Shinji Shimada, and the detective in the work, Tsuji Shimada, is based on Shinji Shimada and his famous detective, Tsuji Mitarai. With the publication of this work, Japanese inference literature entered a new "Shin-Bunge era", and 1987 is also known as "Shin-Bunge first year".
Since then, Tsuji has published "Pavilion series" works, by 2012 has been published nine. Among them, "The Event of the Clock Hall" won the 45th Mystery Writers Association Award, "The Event of the Dark Hall" is known as one of the "new five strange books". The "Museum series" has established the status of Tsuji Ayaya as a grand master, making him an epoch-making mystery writer comparable to Etokawa Shubu, Yokogou Masashi, Matsumoto Kiyojang and Shimada Shoji.
