About the author

Alexander Osterwalder, author

Dr. Ostwald is an author, speaker and mentor in the field of business model innovation. Together with Dr. Yves Pigneur, he developed a practical approach to designing innovative business models that has been used by companies in a wide range of industries around the world, including 3M, Ericsson, Capgemini, Deloitte, Telenor, and many others. He has helped found and sell a strategic consulting firm, helped build a Thailand-based nonprofit that fights AIDS and malaria worldwide, and has done research at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland.

Yves Pigneur, co-author

Dr. Pinieu has been a professor in the field of Management Information Systems at the University of Lausanne since 1984. He is also a visiting professor at Georgia State University in Atlanta and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. He has led several research projects in the areas of information systems design, requirements design, information technology management, innovation and e-commerce.

Alan Smith, Creative Director

Alan is both a macro thinker and a great lover of detail. He co-founded The aptly named change agency, The Movement. There, he works with creative clients to blend social knowledge, business logic, and design thinking. They design strategic, creative and interactive projects that look like works of art from the future, but are always relevant to people today. Why? Because he is fully invested in the design of every project, every day.

Tim Clark, editor and co-author

Teacher, author and speaker in the field of entrepreneurship. Tim's thinking was inspired by his experience starting and successfully selling a marketing research consulting firm. The company has served Amazon, Bertelsmann, General Motors, LVMH, PeopleSoft, and more. Business model thinking is key to his "Entrepreneurship for Everyone" methodology for personal and professional learning, and is central to his doctoral research on the portability of international business models. The New Generation of Business Models is his fourth book.
