《嫉妒与社会》内容简介

　　人会嫉妒；嫉妒总是发生在近似的人之间；什么都会让人嫉妒，特别是那些微小的差异。自古以来，嫉妒都被当成一种羞耻，嫉妒的人不会承认，社会也会对此进行压制。

　　作者简介

　　赫尔穆特·舍克（HelmutSchoeck，1922—1993），曾于慕尼黑大学和图宾根大学学习医学、哲学和心理学，1948年于图宾根大学获得哲学博士学位。1950—1965年，任教于费尔蒙特州立学院、耶鲁大学和埃默里大学等美国多所大学。1965年，回到德国，于美因茨大学担任社会学、哲学研究所教席教授，直到1990年退休。

　　除了代表作《嫉妒与社会》，他自1969年不断扩展和补充的《社会学词典》成为社会学标准参考书。另著有《〈人性的，太人性的〉中的尼采哲学》《社会学及其问题史》《美国：动机与结构》《科学主义与价值观》《相对主义与人的研究》《精神病学与责任》《对内疚的渴望》《不平等的权利》等。

A brief introduction to Jealousy and Society

People get jealous; Jealousy always happens between similar people; Everything makes people jealous, especially the smallest differences. Since ancient times, jealousy has been regarded as a kind of shame, which the jealous people will not admit and the society will suppress.

Focusing on envy and society, the author uses history as a laboratory for the study of jealousy, taking us through the land of jealousy from the colloquial language, the customs of primitive tribes, the tragedies of ancient Greece, literature, philosophy, psychology, and social science to its impact on politics, economic policy, and the way people behave. By painting a picture of desires and taboos, the author makes clear the complex relationship between envy and society: as a basic psychological characteristic in line with human evolution, envy makes the establishment of society possible, but it will hinder the development and innovation of society, and it is impossible to establish complete equality by eliminating all differences.

A classic sociological study of envy, the book is seen as a prelude to the study of modern society, especially with the rise of social media, offering a therapeutic start to problems such as income disparities and class transitions.

About the author

HelmutSchoeck (1922-1993) studied medicine, philosophy and psychology at the universities of Munich and Tubingen, where he received his doctorate in philosophy in 1948. From 1950 to 1965, he taught at several universities in the United States, including Fairmont State College, Yale University and Emory University. In 1965, he returned to Germany and became Chair Professor at the Institute of Sociology and Philosophy at the University of Mainz, where he remained until his retirement in 1990.

In addition to his masterpiece Jealousy and Society, his Dictionary of Sociology, which has been continuously expanded and supplemented since 1969, has become a standard reference work in sociology. He is also the author of Nietzsche's Philosophy in "Human, All-Human", "Sociology and its Problems", "America: Motivation and Structure", "Scientism and Values", "Relativism and the Study of man", "Psychiatry and Responsibility", "The Desire for guilt", "Unequal Rights" and so on.

Tan Gan is a doctor of Law jointly trained by Renmin University of China and University of Regensburg, Germany, lecturer of Law School of Southwest University of Political Science and Law, and visiting scholar of University of Augsburg, Germany.
