　　作者简介

　　周有光先生1906年生于江苏常州，是中国著名的语言文字学家、思想家。早年在大学主修经济学。曾任复旦大学、上海财经学院经济学教授，上大学时对语言学、文字改革有浓厚兴趣，并参加了拉丁化新文字运动。1955年以后，根据国家需要，专职从事语言文字工作。研究文字改革和汉语拼音问题，任中国文字改革委员会研究员，兼任中国社会科学院研究生院教授，并在北京大学、中国人民大学等校授课。主持和拟定了《汉语拼音方案》（1958年公布），主导和建立了汉语拼音系统。

　　半个多世纪以来，周有光先生一直致力于推进中国文字改革和语文现代化的进程。1961年出版著作《汉字改革概论》，全面系统地论述了我国文字改革的理论和实践问题。此后他还陆续出版了《世界文字发展史》、《比较文字学初探》、《朝闻道集》等30余部重要著作。周有光先生不仅在语言文字领域成果斐然，在文化史研究等领域同样成就显著。

　　周有光先生历任《中国大百科全书》总编辑委员会委员；《简明不列颠百科全书》中美联合编审委员会中方委员；《汉语大词典》学术顾问；日文《不列颠国际百科全书》国际学术顾问等，是中国最受敬重的著名学者之一。

About the author

Mr. Zhou Youguang, born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province in 1906, is a famous Chinese linguist and thinker. He majored in economics at university. He used to be a professor of economics at Fudan University and Shanghai Institute of Finance and Economics. When he was in college, he had a keen interest in linguistics and script reform, and participated in the Latinized new script movement. Since 1955, in accordance with the needs of the state, full-time engaged in language work. He has been a researcher at the Chinese Writing Reform Commission and a professor at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He has also taught at Peking University and Renmin University of China. He presided over and formulated the "Chinese Pinyin Scheme" (published in 1958), and led and established the Chinese Pinyin system.

For more than half a century, Mr. Zhou Youguang has been committed to promoting the process of Chinese language reform and modernization. In 1961, An Introduction to the Reform of Chinese Characters was published, which comprehensively and systematically discussed the theoretical and practical problems of the reform of Chinese characters. Since then, he has also published more than 30 important works such as The Development of World Characters, A Preliminary Study of Comparative Philology, and the Collection of Chaowen Dao.
