作者简介
瓦尔特•伯克特（WalterBurkert，1931—2015），德国古典学家，苏黎世大学古典学教授。美国哲学学会成员，美国艺术与科学院院士。主要研究古希腊神话与崇拜，将考古学发现与诗人、历史学家和哲学家的著作相结合，由此影响了宗教学研究。著有《古希腊献祭仪式与神话人类学》《希腊宗教》等。
Structure and History in Greek Mythology and Ritual
In this small book of less than 200,000 words, the fundamental question that Burkett seeks to answer is essentially: What determines the structure of the human mind? To this end, he chose to start with the myths and rituals of ancient Greece to explore the concept, nature and interrelationship of myths and rituals, thus outlining the status and significance of myths in Greek civilization, and providing his own reflection on the larger disciplines and ideological crises such as mythology and anthropology, classics and humanities.

This book is considered a must-read for the study of ancient Greek religion. The book not only discusses the concept and nature of myth and ritual, and focuses on the relationship between the two, breaking the habit of classicists in the past to deal with them separately, but also analyzes two cases of protomyth that are in the process of change, and explores the trajectory of the historical transmission of myth from the perspective of the interaction between the ancient Near East and ancient Greece.
The author argues that the structure of the human spirit is determined by the process of historical development, by traditions formed and passed on in a complex way of life, and that the human spirit depends on cultural transmission processes that are inextricably linked to recurring, life-and-death issues, so that the historical perspective can better understand the mysteries of myths and rituals than mathematical models. About the author
WalterBurkert (1931-2015) was a German classicist and professor of Classics at the University of Zurich. Member of the American Philosophical Society and Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The study of ancient Greek mythology and worship, combining archaeological findings with the writings of poets, historians, and philosophers, has influenced religious studies. He is the author of the Anthropology of Sacrifice and Mythology in Ancient Greece and Greek Religion.
