Bad Grief, Good Grief
Sadness is the pain of losing a loved one. It is a terrible feeling of helplessness. It is a bump in the emotional storm.
Grief is inevitable.
But we are often silent about it, and the people around us seem to offer only comfort.
What is it that makes us sad? Is it a disease? In addition to pain, can we find something good in grief?
Philosophy can help us find the answer.
We can't change the fact that life is fragile, but we can prepare ourselves to experience grief more intelligently
To understand the truth of grief and find great and lasting comfort.
A "philosophical Guide" to grief, Michael Jobe, professor of philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, draws on psychology, literature, philosophy, and other social sciences to explain what grief is, who we grieve for, and why it leads to a richer sense of self and a fuller understanding of human nature.
