A review of the rise and fall of fairy tales and museum trends in the Victorian era

Fairy Tales, Natural History, and Victorian Culture is a discussion of the natural literature and scientific writing of the Victorian era in England, centered on the natural literature, classical fairy tales, and the natural history movement of the period, by Laurence Talarach-Vermas, professor of English at the University of Toulouse in France.

Goblins are like miniature human beings, and their powerlessness contains the pity of the Victorians for themselves. Self-pity is the emotional release after recognizing the fact, only in this way can slowly accept the harsh reality that the environment is constantly changing. The Victorian goblins shed the pomp of romanticism and became spokesmen for a new meaning of "nature", thereby escaping from their declining status and reinvigorating themselves. They help scientists push the limits of reality, breaking down the absolute boundaries of what is possible and impossible, allowing discussions in different fields to intermingle, and drawing out what science cannot perceive and experience through rational thought alone. They have also helped popular science writers cope with the conflict between religion and science, which has become the last refuge for spiritual phenomena and Christian faith in laboratories and college campuses.

In the early days of Europe, goblins mostly appeared in the stories advocating natural theology. They had no fixed images and routines and could represent anything in nature. Scientists needed to strip away their appearances to discover the essence behind them. Later, the goblin turned into a prophet, warning people of the consequences of urban overpopulation that could lead to the demise of mankind, forcing humans to reflect on their own actions and question their conscience.
