Wonderful book review

The Qin and Han Dynasties were a world full of aesthetic material production... The concentration of national financial resources caused by the Great unification, the emergence of the middle class caused by the bureaucracy, and the new symbolic system built to serve this new social structure made the material and cultural landscape of the Qin and Han Dynasties completely different from that of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties in terms of form, scale and distribution. From the perspective of material culture or art history, the book "Craftsmen of Qin and Han Dynasties" by Professor Li Anton is the only one to reveal and feel the human nature of this institutionalized production. ... At the same time, this book is also a methodological demonstration of how to transform silent artifacts into verbal historical materials.

-- Miao Zhe (famous art historian, Professor of Zhejiang University)

Professor Lee clarified the social position of artisans and the impact of official funding and legal restrictions on their products. This book presents the conditions under which the masterpieces of our museum are produced.

-- Lu Weiyi (famous Sinologist, Professor of Cambridge University)

Looking at Chinese lacquerware, bronzes and stone statues through the museum's glass display cases, one wonders how these beautifully decorated bowls and utensils were made. Although this book does not dwell on the method of making objects, Professor Lee opens up a whole new field, taking us beyond the physical characteristics of an object or a building, and the lives of the men and women artisans, into the complex and deeply hidden world of early Chinese society.

-- Rosen (renowned archaeologist, art historian, Professor at the University of Oxford)

This book is a new and authoritative study of the craft and industrial organization of early imperial Chinese civilization. It is undoubtedly the most important English monograph on the social and economic history of the Han Dynasty in the past 25 years.

-- Luo Tai (famous archaeologist, art historian, professor at the University of California, Los Angeles)
