　　西格弗里德·伦茨，享誉世界的德国文学巨匠，与海因里希·伯尔、君特·格拉斯两位诺贝尔文学奖得主并称“战后德语文学三大家”。

　　1926年3月17日，伦茨出生在东普鲁士马祖里地区的吕克城（今波兰埃乌克），成长于一个海关官员的家庭；1943年，被德国海军征召入伍，后于德国“二战”投降前夕逃离部队，被英军俘获，成为战俘遣返委员会的翻译；1945年，被遣返德国，在汉堡大学攻读哲学、英语语言文学和文艺学。1951年，伦茨发表第一部长篇小说《空中有苍鹰》，名震德国文坛，荣获1952年的勒内·席克莱奖和1953年的汉堡莱辛奖，从此成为职业作家；1979年，与伯尔、格拉斯一同拒绝接受德意志联邦共和国十字勋章。2014年10月7日，伦茨在汉堡逝世。

　　伦茨一生著述颇丰，他的作品被翻译成22种语言，累计销量逾2500万册。代表作有《德语课》《家乡博物馆》《投敌者》《少年与沉默之海》等10余部长篇小说，《我的小村如此多情——马祖里的故事》《灯塔船》等中短篇小说集，《脸》《眼罩》等戏剧，《无罪者的时代，有罪者的时代》《贝壳慢慢打开》等广播剧。《少年与沉默之海》被列入德国中学生必读书目，2013年播出的同名电视电影一举斩获君特·斯特拉克电视奖等3项国际奖项；《家乡博物馆》被誉为其长篇小说的又一登顶之作，1988年同名剧集播出。

　　伦茨曾荣获歌德金质奖章、托马斯·曼文学奖、汉堡莱辛奖、巴伐利亚国家文学奖、德国书业和平奖、意大利诺尼诺国际文学奖等30多个重要奖项。2014年伦茨逝世后，为纪念其对德语文学做出的重大贡献，德国文坛设立了“西格弗里德·伦茨奖”。

The Home Museum is a masterpiece of German national treasure writer Siegfried Lenz.

A hometown museum with a collection of Mazuri artifacts was destroyed in a sudden fire set by the museum's builder, collector, and guardian, Sigmunt Rogara. As the old man Sigismund begins his lengthy defense, the story of Mazuri and his hometown museum is slowly unraveled. As a child, Sigismund followed his uncle Adam to gather historical testimony on the land of his hometown, retracing the past of Mazuri, using memory to resist forgetting, and using evidence to understand the past and oneself. However, when the fire of war and the iron shoe of the Nazis came closer and closer, the people of Mazuri were forced into exile and went far away from home.

How do we return to our homeland and defend our memory when it becomes a distant place, when memory loses its witness?

About the author

Siegfried Lenz, a world-renowned German literary giant, and Heinrich Bohr and Gunter Grass, two Nobel Prize winners in literature, are called the "three masters of postwar German literature".

Lentz was born on 17 March 1926 in the town of Luc (now Euk, Poland) in the Mazuri region of East Prussia, and grew up in a family of customs officers. In 1943, he was conscripted into the German Navy, deserted the army on the eve of Germany's surrender in World War II, was captured by the British army, and became an interpreter for the Prisoner of War Repatriation Committee. In 1945, he was repatriated to Germany and studied philosophy, English Language and literature, and literature at the University of Hamburg. In 1951, Lenz published his first novel "There Is a Gogok in the Sky", which shocked the German literary world and won the Rene Schickel Prize in 1952 and the Lessing Prize in Hamburg in 1953, and has since become a professional writer. In 1979, along with Berl and Grass, he refused to accept the Cross of the Order of the Federal Republic of Germany. Lentz died in Hamburg on 7 October 2014.

Lentz wrote extensively throughout his life, and his books were translated into 22 languages and sold more than 25 million copies. Masterpieces include more than 10 novels such as "German Class", "Hometown Museum", "The Defectors", "The Young Man and the Sea of Silence", "My little Village is so passionate - The Story of Mazuri", "Lighthouse Ship" and other short stories, "Face", "Eye Mask" and other plays, "The Age of the Innocent, the Age of the guilty", "The Shell Slowly opens" and other radio plays. "The Young Man and the Sea of Silence" has been included in the German middle school students' required reading list, and in 2013, the TV movie of the same name won three international awards including Gunter Strack TV Award. "Hometown Museum" was hailed as another top work of his novels, and the series of the same name was broadcast in 1988.

Lenz has won more than 30 important awards, including the Goethe Gold Medal, the Thomas Mann Prize for Literature, the Lessing Prize in Hamburg, the Bavarian State Prize for Literature, the German Book Industry Peace Prize, and the Italian Nonino International Prize for Literature. After his death in 2014, the Siegfried Lenz Prize was established to commemorate his significant contribution to German literature.
