约翰•内森John Nathan（1940-）
美国人，日本研究学者，著名日本文学翻译家和评论家，加利福尼亚大学圣塔芭芭拉分校东亚语言与文化研究系教授。
夏目漱石遗作《明暗》英文本译者，另译有大江健三郎、三岛由纪夫、安部公房等重要日本作家作品。
出版专著《三岛由纪夫传》（1974）、《索尼秘史》（1999）、《无约束的日本》（2004）等。
内森一度致力于摄制日本题材的影视作品。1982年，其导演的纪录片The Colonel Goes to Japan获艾美奖。

After three years of careful study of the Gargling stone, my various visions of the Gargling stone have been pieced together into a disturbing portrait. Like his contemporary Marcel Proust, Suishi was an intensely nervous child all his life: serious about things he liked or disliked, critical, haughty, sometimes talkative, sometimes silent, unpredictable. Proust was sickly when he was young, and while he was grown up, while he was emaciated and nervous, he was often tormented both physically and mentally. About the author
John Nathan (1940-)
American, Japanese studies scholar, renowned translator and critic of Japanese literature, Professor in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
He also translated works by Kenzaburo Oe, Yukio Mishima, Kobo Abe and other important Japanese writers.
He published books such as The Biography of Yukio Mishima (1974), The Secret History of SONY (1999), and Japan Without Restraint (2004).
Nathan has been working on films and television about Japanese subjects. In 1982, he won an Emmy Award for his documentary The Colonel Goes to Japan.
