Journalist, editor, novelist, essayist. One of the most important columnists of the golden Age of American print, former editor-in-chief of the Daily News. In a career that spanned more than five decades, he wrote for the New York Post, The New York Daily News, The Village Voice, The New York Newsday, The New Yorker, Esquire, Playboy, Rolling Stone and other major media outlets. The report covers politics, society, sports, music and many other fields.
For his important contributions to the field of journalism, he was awarded the Columbia University School of Journalism Lifetime Achievement Award, the Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award of the National Association of Newspaper Columnists, the George Polk Career Award, the New York Magazine Media Legend Award, the Eugene O 'Neill Lifetime Achievement Award and many other important honors. Hamill was named in the New York 400 for his affectionate descriptions of New York City throughout his life, and after his death, a street in Brooklyn was named after him.
