Introduction of works
This book is a general reading on the political history and art history of the Song Dynasty. Huang Bo, the author, draws a unique picture of the political life of the Song Dynasty, focusing on the historical facts and anecdotes of the portraits of the emperors in the Song Dynasty. The book uses a brisk style to control the rigorous academic theme. The symbolic portraits of the emperors of the Song Dynasty play a magical effect of "as if I were in person" in the diplomatic exchanges and military confrontations between the two Song Dynasties. Moreover, in the defeat and separation of the Northern Song Dynasty, it gives birth to a series of moving stories of "defending the royal face to the death", reflecting the importance of the visual display of imperial portraits for the operation of imperial power. At the same time, through the relocation and reconstruction of the imperial Hall and the "role playing" of the emperor's portraits to the gods and sages, the power game between the imperial power and the scholar-officials, the central and local power game behind the ceremony is revealed, which provides a new perspective for the study of the political history of the Song Dynasty.
