《高启：诗人的穷途》【内容简介】

　　高启是明代首屈一指的诗人，在某种程度上缔造了有明一代诗歌的气象、规模与轮廓。却在盛年因卷入苏州知府魏观的冤案，横遭腰斩。

　　高启有集传世，但因为始终未被平反，生平记载少之又少，青年时代充满了谜团。本书从高启的诗歌入手，勾勒出高启的行踪与交游。

　　更可贵的是，本书的并不止步于勾稽诗人生平，而是将个人的升沉置于元末大乱、群雄逐鹿与明初的高压时局下。被朱元璋消灭的张士诚政权，是曾让青年高启寄托英雄主义豪情的存在。之后则由幻灭转为疏离，这段经历终成为高启命运中难以摆脱的伏笔。

　　译后记从牟复礼写作此书的学术史意义谈起，旁及西方汉学著作的预设读者与终极追求，又将翻译过程中的种种纠结与思索一一呈现，极富意趣。

　　作者简介

　　作者牟复礼（FrederickW.Mote，1922—2005），美国汉学家，二战时曾被派往中国，支援抗日，参加过由赵元任先生主持的美军汉语培训班，汉语流利、标准、典雅，又极度热爱中国文化。战后考入南京金陵大学历史系，获得学士学位，在华期间师从王崇武。1954年获得华盛顿大学博士学位。后辗转日本京都大学、台湾大学、荷兰莱顿大学进行研究与工作，1956年起受聘于普林斯顿大学，1963年升任教授，长期教授中国历史与文化，被誉为普林斯顿大学东亚系之父。著有《中国思想之渊源》，编写《剑桥中国明代史》。他的英文专著《帝制中国，900—1800》一直以来都是在西方学习宋元明清历史的主要教材。

Gao Qi: The Poet's Poor Road

Gao Qi is the leading poet in Ming Dynasty. To some extent, he created the weather, scale and outline of the poetry of You Ming Dynasty. However, in the prime of his life, he was cut in half because he was involved in the unjust case of Suzhou Governor Wei Guan.

Gao Qi has been handed down to the world, but because he has not been rehabilitated, there are few life records, and his youth is full of mysteries. This book begins with Gao Qi's poems, outlining Gao Qi's whereabouts and friends.

What is more valuable is that the book does not stop at the narration of the poet's life, but puts the personal rise and fall under the great chaos at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the mass of men and the high pressure situation in the early Ming Dynasty. The regime of Zhang Shicheng, which was destroyed by Zhu Yuanzhang, was the existence of the heroic sentiment that had let the young Gao Qi express. Then the disillusionment turned to alienation, and this experience eventually became an inescapable foreshadowing of the high destiny.

The postscript begins with the academic historical significance of Mu Fuli's writing of this book, touches on the intended readers and ultimate pursuit of Western Sinology works, and presents various entangleities and reflections in the translation process, which is very interesting.

About the author

The author, FrederickW.Mote (1922-2005), was an American Sinologist who was sent to China during World War II to support the Anti-Japanese War. He participated in the Chinese training course of the US Army hosted by Mr. Zhao Yuanren. His Chinese is fluent, standard and elegant, and he is extremely passionate about Chinese culture. After the war, he entered the history Department of Nanjing Jinling University, where he received a bachelor's degree and studied under Wang Chongwu. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1954. After that, he studied and worked in Kyoto University, Taiwan University and Leiden University in the Netherlands. In 1956, he was hired by Princeton University and promoted to professor in 1963. He taught Chinese history and culture for a long time and was known as the father of the East Asian Department of Princeton University. He is the author of The Origin of Chinese Thought and the author of the Cambridge History of China in the Ming Dynasty. His English monograph Imperial China, 900-1800 has long been the main textbook for learning the history of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties in the West.

Translator Yan Zinan is an associate professor at the School of Literature, Beijing Normal University. He received his doctorate from SOAS, University of London. Under the guidance of Mr. AndrewLo, he is deeply engaged in overseas Sinology and Ming and Qing literature.

Ye Ye is a professor of Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University. His main research interests are literature and literature of Ming and Qing dynasties.
