[Japan] Mieko Kawakami

Born in Osaka, she is one of the most internationally influential writers in contemporary Japanese literature, known for her poetic style and insight into the female body, as well as her examination of ethical paradoxes and modern social dilemmas.

Before his debut, Kawakami worked as a bartender and bookstore clerk to pay off family debts and raise money for his younger brother's school fees. While working, she began her music career. Signed to a major record label and moved to Tokyo. However, she could not write her own lyrics, and the album did not sell well, so she quit altogether and turned to literary writing. prime

She began writing as a blogger and later published poems in literary magazines. As an actress, she won the Best Newcomer Actress award from the Japanese film Junpo.
