[美]阿恩·卡勒伯格，北卡罗来纳大学教堂山分校社会学系特聘教授，曾任印第安纳大学伯明顿分校社会学系教授。卡勒伯格于2001—2004年担任美国社会学协会干事，并于2007—2008年担任其主席。他目前是国际社会研究杂志《社会力量》的编辑。

This book assesses global and domestic factors and their impact on precarious employment in Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia. These three countries are typical of Asian capitalist economies: Japan and South Korea are now developed and mature economies, while Indonesia remains a lower-middle income country.
Drawing on their years of research in Asian studies, comparative political economy, social division and inequality, and the sociology of work, the authors offer compelling insights into the extent and consequences of precarious employment, and examine the forces behind its rise. By linking macro-level policies, mesolevel industrial relations, and micro-level experiences of individual workers, they reveal the intricate forces that generate precarious employment, combining historical and institutional analysis with the political economy of capitalism and class relations in the process. The book shows how precarious employment ultimately leads to growing inequality and keeps parts of the population in chronic poverty, leaving many more with precarious lives and incomes.
About the author
Arne Kalleberg is a distinguished professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a former professor in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University Bloomington. Kahleberg served as an officer of the American Sociological Association from 2001-2004 and as its president from 2007-2008. He is currently the editor of Social Forces, an international journal of social studies.
Kevin Hewitson is director of the Carolina Asia Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and editor in chief of Contemporary Asia magazine.
[Han] Shin Gwang-yeong, Professor of Sociology, Chung-ang University, Seoul, South Korea, president of the Korean Sociological Association. He is currently a member of the editorial board of Social Forces, Contemporary Asia and Globalization. His research interests include the impact of labor market and demographic transitions on social inequality, historical social democracy in Northern Europe, the neoliberal turn, and the rise of the proletariat in East Asia.
