About the author:
Meng Zhang is an assistant professor of history at Vanderbilt University. He graduated from Guanghua School of Management, Peking University with a double degree in finance and statistics. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Los Angeles. His main research fields are social and economic history, environmental history and comparative political economy of Ming and Qing Dynasties.
