Content introduction
At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Vienna, in the crisis of political and social disintegration, gave birth to many modern art and thought achievements. In music and philosophy, in economics and architecture, in psychoanalysis, the innovators broke their ties to a certain view of history; This view of history was central to the 19th-century liberal culture in which they grew up. This book explores the beginnings of this cultural transformation in a particular historical context.
After its publication, the book generated a strong response among critics and readers in Europe and the United States, and won the Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction works in 1981, and is still paid attention to in the field of European intellectual history.
