作者简介

The Crossing of the Atlantic looks at the interconnectedness, exchange, and competition of social policy on both sides of the Atlantic, and at the struggle to compensate for the damage caused by over-indulging capitalism in the process of industrialization and urbanization in the West. From the Paris World's Fair in 1900 to the Beveridge Report in London in 1942, from the two World Wars to Roosevelt's New Deal, the historical record is rich and abundant, and vividly records a variety of social policy attempts affecting people's lives, including social insurance, urban planning, municipal services, rural education and housing reform. The vision not only spans the Atlantic, but also involves Australia and New Zealand, always grasping the context of interaction between countries and breaking the limitations of inherent boundaries of thought.
About the author
Daniel T. Rogers is a professor of history at Princeton University, where he teaches American cultural and intellectual history, comparative and transnational perspectives on American history. The Crossing of the Atlantic: Social Politics in the Progressive Age (1998) won the Beale Award from the American Historical Association and the Hawley Award from the Organization of American Historians. His other books include The Work Ethic in the Industrial Age of America, 1850-1920 (1978), Challenged Truth: Key Words in American Politics Since Independence (1987), The Age of Fracture (2011), and A City on a Hill: The Most Famous Secular Sermon in American History (2018).
