Chester, a cricket born in the Connecticut prairie, is accidentally taken to The Times Square subway station in New York City because of his voracious eating. The little cricket from the countryside went out for the first time, and came to the most prosperous place in the world. In this strange world, he is lucky enough to be adopted by a kind boy, Mario, the son of a newsstand owner, and becomes good friends with two old residents of the subway station - Henry the Cat and Tucker the Mouse.
Chester has amazing musical talent, he "played" beautiful music, touched everyone who heard, became the most watched star in New York, changed the poor life of the Mario family. To his surprise, Chester received so many applause and flowers, and still remembered the free life in his hometown, so he said goodbye to his friends and set out on his way home.
About the author
George Selden (1929-1989) was born in Connecticut. After graduating from college, he began to write children's novels. The book that really made him famous was The Cricket in Times Square, written in 1961. It was published to great acclaim and is still popular in the American market today, establishing Selden's position in the world of children's literature. Selden later developed this series of seven stories, such as "Tucker's Suburbs" and so on, are deeply loved by young readers.
