Content introduction
"The Master of the Wild" tells the story of the beginnings of Chinese archaeology in the 1920s. The author describes the birth of Chinese archaeology with the development of four major institutions: the Institute of Geological Survey, the Institute of Chinese Studies of Tsinghua University, the Institute of History and Language of the Central Research Institute and the Institute of Construction. These four institutions have produced many famous archaeologists (Li Ji, Zhao Yuanren, Wu Mi, Jia Lanpo, Xia Nai, Liang Sicheng, Lin Huiyin, Liang Siyong, etc.). The author describes their work and contributions in the archaeological site and academic study in a delicate and sensitive way, highlighting their courage and perseverance to open up new horizons in the face of adversity. It shows their deeds of serving the country with passion and professionalism in times of internal and external troubles. "The Master of the Wild" also depicts many of the major discoveries of the time that gave China a voice on the world archaeological stage.
On the occasion of the centenary of Chinese archaeology, "Masters on the Wild" aims to review the spirit and morality of the pioneers, hoping that today's people will re-create the "golden age" of Chinese archaeology.
