On January 18, 1934, on a boat in his hometown river, Shen Congwen experienced a classic moment of clarity in his life, and he thoroughly realized that "real history is a river". The long river runs through his literary creation in the first half of his life, and the study of miscellaneous cultural relics in the second half of his life.

What kind of relationship does a gradually forming, constantly enriching and expanding life have with the era and society in which it lives? There are both passive and active relationships. Passivity lies in the pressure exerted by The Times and society on individuals, especially in China in the 20th century. The author's interpretation makes us intuitively feel Shen Congwen's spiritual dilemma at the turning point of life. The active relationship lies in the fact that Shen transcends the status of passive victim and turns from literary creation to the study of miscellaneous cultural relics by creating a career in desperate circumstances day after day. With the tradition of "feeling", he put himself into the long river of cultural history and secretly received the historical responsibility and cultural mission. Zhang Xinxin

Born in Shandong Province in 1967, Professor of Chinese Language and Literature Department of Fudan University, Jiang Jiang Distinguished Professor of the Minister of Education.
