西蒙娜·薇依(Simone Weil,1909-1943)，法国哲学家、政治思想家、社会活动家。1909年2月3日生于法国巴黎一个文化教养很高的富裕的中产阶级家庭。1926年到1931年，考入巴黎高师从事哲学学习和研究。1931年到1934年，薇依先后在外省的几所中学任哲学教师。从1940年到1943年，薇依对以往的劳动、战斗、政治参与和社会活动的经历进行理论总结。在马赛、纽约，最后到伦敦，她写了一本又一本的笔记，内容涉及哲学、历史、政治直至1943年8月因饥饿、重病死于伦敦郊区的修道院，年仅34岁。她的大部分作品都是在死后出版的，受到广泛好评。其主要著作有：《柏拉图对话中的神》《被拯救的威尼斯》《在期待之中》《工厂日记》等。

How to get rid of the pain and boredom of work? In order to feel oppressed like an oppressed person and to pursue what she believed to be a free society as realistically as possible, Simone Weil left her position as a philosophy teacher and entered a factory in December 1934. For nearly a year, the rebellious philosophy teacher took turns as a cutter, packer and miller, suffering illness, accidents, dismissals, obedience, humiliation and injustice. This cruelty marked her for life.
In The Factory Diary, Weil recorded her own observations, what happened to her fellow workers, working hours and income, physical and mental suffering, and her philosophical and moral reflections on the experience. The book is a raw document that is neither lyrical nor sentimental, showing Simone Weil's concern for the realities of the moment and her constant standing on the side of the working man.
About the author
Simone Weil (1909-1943) was a French philosopher, political thinker, and social activist. He was born on February 3, 1909 in Paris, France, to a well-educated and wealthy middle-class family. From 1926 to 1931, he studied and researched philosophy at the Ecole Normale de Paris. From 1931 to 1934, Weil worked as a philosophy teacher in several secondary schools in the provinces. From 1940 to 1943, Weil made theoretical summaries of his previous experiences in labor, combat, political participation, and social activism. In Marseille, New York, and finally London, she wrote book after book of notes on philosophy, history, and politics until she died of starvation and serious illness in a convent on the outskirts of London in August 1943, aged 34. Most of her works were published posthumously to wide acclaim. His main works are: Plato's Dialogues on God, Venice Saved, In Expectation, Factory Diary and so on.
