本书收录黄宗智、周黎安两位教授有关中国研究的代表作15篇，囊括了两位顶级学者的重要经验发现和理论概括，如黄宗智教授的“内卷化”“第三领域”“集权的简约治理”“实用道德主义”、周黎安教授的“晋升锦标赛”“行政发包制”“‘官场+市场’模式”等等。在本书中，黄宗智、周黎安两位教授各自围绕国家治理、国家能力等议题，在西方理论的“话语丛林”中穿梭往来，既与之对话，又面向实际，试图还中国一个本来的面目。他们的对话并非一问一答，也不是直接对应，而是在各自独立的探索中遥相呼应、相映成趣，书中也不乏争论碰撞。两位教授还结合自己的研究经验，对有志从事社会科学研究的青年学者提出了许多行之有效的建议。
作者简介
黄宗智，普林斯顿大学学士，华盛顿大学博士，1966年始任教于UCLA历史系，1991年晋升“超级教授”，2004年荣休。主要著作有《华北的小农经济与社会变迁》（获美国历史学会费正清奖）、《长江三角洲的小农家庭与乡村发展》（获亚洲研究协会列文森奖）等。
周黎安，北京大学学士、硕士，斯坦福大学博士，现任北京大学博雅特聘教授、教育部“长江学者”特聘教授。在American Economic Review,Journal of Economic History,以及《中国社会科学》《经济研究》等国内外顶级经济学和管理学期刊发表论文60余篇，出版专著《转型中的地方政府：官员激励与治理》。
Content introduction
This book includes 15 representative works of professors Huang Zongzhi and Zhou Li 'an on Chinese studies, including important empirical findings and theoretical generalizations of two top scholars. For example, Professor Huang Zongzhi's "internal volume", "third field", "centralized simple governance", "practical moralism", Professor Zhou Li 'an's "promotion tournament", "administrative contract system", "Officialdom + market" model "and so on. In this book, professors Huang Zongzhi and Zhou Li 'an respectively navigate the "discourse jungle" of Western theory around issues such as national governance and national capacity, engaging in dialogue with it while facing reality, trying to return China to its original face. Their dialogue is not a question and answer, nor is it a direct correspondence, but in their independent exploration of the distant echo, each other's interest, there is no lack of debate in the book. Combined with their own research experience, the two professors also put forward many effective suggestions for young scholars aspiring to engage in social science research.
About the author
Huang received a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a doctorate from the University of Washington. He began teaching history at UCLA in 1966, was promoted to "Super Professor" in 1991, and retired in 2004. His major books include: Smallholder Economic and Social Change in North China (Fairbank Award, American Historical Association) and Smallholder Families and Rural Development in the Yangtze River Delta (Levinson Award, Asian Studies Association).
Zhou Li 'an received his bachelor's degree and master's degree from Peking University and his doctorate from Stanford University. He is currently a distinguished professor of Liberal Arts at Peking University and a distinguished Professor of "Cheung Kong Scholars" of the Ministry of Education. He has published more than 60 papers in top domestic and foreign economics and management journals such as American Economic Review,Journal of Economic History, Chinese Social Sciences and Economic Research, and published a monograph entitled "Local Government in Transition: Official Incentives and Governance".
