Usually, war is thought of as a confrontation between armies, and the battlefield is the arena for politicians and soldiers. This book, however, offers an alternative narrative of how a group of economists used their knowledge and expertise to shape economic policy and participate in military decision-making behind the battlefield.
The period from 1935 to 1955 was another crucial period that changed the course of human history, during which not only the unprecedentedly fierce World War II broke out, but also a new world order was opened. In this history, seven economists from six countries have played an important role, each in its own way.
The author gives a biographical summary of the growth of seven economists and their roles in the years 1935-1955. Behind these vivid stories, we can see the battle of human nature, the confrontation of different systems and values. These contests and confrontations not only profoundly affected the course of the war and the post-war order at that time, but even foreshadowed the current world pattern to a certain extent.
