Content introduction
The great historical energy of the Renaissance and the Reformation was rapidly transmitted to the great changes and reshaping of the political system and the balance of power in Europe in the 17th century. The important feature is the establishment of absolute monarchy in Europe and the formation of European nation states, and the religious theocracy gradually gave way to the secular monarchical power, which also made Europe finally out of the fog of the Middle Ages and entered a new stage of modern history.
This book is a history of political change in Europe during this period, with insights into key events that shaped the course of European history, such as the Thirty Years' War, the fall of the Holy Roman Empire, the Glorious Revolution in England, and the rise of the Kingdom of Prussia, as well as detailed depictions of such historic figures as Louis XIV, King Gustav II of Sweden, and Lord Protector Cromwell.
