本书以幽默诙谐的语言，生动再现了苏报案全过程，从小叙事抽丝剥茧，以大视野审视清末司法转型，阐明苏报案个案力量推动中国近代化法治前行的历史偶然性和必然性。作者从法制史、新闻史等多学科角度切入，运用跨学科视野，立体考察苏报案，精剖细缕其引发的中外制度、思维层面的碰撞及反思，并在学理上提出了“司法是一种变量之和”等新观点，从而揭示出事件所蕴含的法律、政治、社会、历史意义。
作者简介······
蔡斐，江苏东台人，新闻学硕士、法学博士、历史学博士后。现任西南政法大学新闻传播学院副院长，教授，博士生导师、博士后合作导师。曾获“全国首批宣传思想文化青年英才”“教育部第三批高校网络教育名师”称号，同时担任新华网、人民网、侠客岛等多家媒体特约评论员。先后主持国家社科基金、中国博士后科学基金面上资助项目等省部级以上项目16项，出版《二十世纪影响中国司法的20大案》《近代重庆新闻传播史稿（1897—1949）》等专著6部。

A research work on the legal history and social and cultural history, which discusses the inevitability of judicial transformation in the late Qing Dynasty with the Su report as the center, starts with the Su report that shocked the whole world and looks at the century-old judicial reform.
With humorous language, this book vividly reproduces the whole process of Sue's report from a small narrative, examines the judicial transformation at the end of the Qing Dynasty from a broad perspective, and clarifies the historical contingency and inevitability of Sue's case force to promote China's modernization of the rule of law. From the perspective of legal history, journalism history and other disciplines, the author uses an interdisciplinary perspective to investigate the case in three dimensions, and carefully analyze the collision and reflection of Chinese and foreign systems and thinking caused by it. In addition, he puts forward new viewpoints such as "justice is a sum of variables" in academic theory, thereby revealing the legal, political, social and historical significance of the event.
About the author
CAI Fei, a native of Dongtai, Jiangsu Province, has a master's degree in journalism, a Doctor's degree in law, and a postdoctoral degree in history. He is currently Vice president, professor, doctoral supervisor and postdoctoral co-supervisor of the School of Journalism and Communication of Southwest University of Political Science and Law. He has won the title of "the first batch of Young Talents in Propaganda of Ideology and Culture in China" and "the third batch of Famous teachers of Online education in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education". At the same time, he has served as a guest commentator for many media such as Xinhua Net, People's Daily Net and Xiake Island. He has presided over 16 projects at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation and the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, and published six monographs, including 20 Major Cases affecting Chinese Justice in the 20th Century and the History of Modern Chongqing Journalism and Communication (1897-1949).
