　　米尔恰•伊利亚德（Mircea Eliade，1907—1986），西方著名宗教史家。二战结束后到1955年，这一期间他的宗教研究达到了一个顶峰，以法文的形式出版了一系列宗教著作：《神圣的存在：比较宗教的范型》、《宇宙和历史》、《永恒回归的神话》、《瑜伽：不死与自由》、《神圣与世俗》以及《萨满教》。这几本着作几乎涵盖了20世纪所有宗教的重要研究领域，使他迅速崛起成为一名蜚声国际学术界的宗教史家。1957年任芝加哥大学宗教系主任和教授等职。1961年主编出版了《宗教史》创刊，成为美洲大陆宗教研究的一份重要刊物。80年代，伊利亚德的学术声名日盛，担任《宗教百科全书》的主编，1987年16卷本的《宗教百科全书》正式出版。

About the author

Mircea Eliade (1907-1986) was a famous Western historian of religion. During the period from the end of World War II to 1955, his religious studies reached a peak with the publication in French of a series of religious works: The Divine Being: Paradigms of Comparative Religions, the Universe and History, The Myth of Eternal Return, Yoga: Immortality and Freedom, the Sacred and the Profane, and Shamanism. These works cover almost all the important areas of study of religion in the 20th century, making his rapid rise to become an internationally renowned historian of religion. In 1957, he was appointed chairman and Professor of Religion at the University of Chicago. In 1961, he edited and published the first issue of the History of Religion, which became an important journal of religious studies in the American continent. In the 1980s, Eliade's academic reputation grew and he became the editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of Religions, which was published in 16 volumes in 1987.

About the Translator

Yan Kejia graduated from Fudan University in 1988. He is currently a researcher and director of the Institute of Religion, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. His research interests include Christianity, Zoroaism and contemporary religious issues. He is the author of "A Brief History of Catholicism in China" and "Catholicism in China" (Chinese, English and Vietnamese texts). History of Zoroastrianism (co-authored), with a translation of Iliad's History of Religious Thought (co-translated). Toynbee's A Historian's View of Religion. He has studied in North America, Europe, India and other countries and regions under the programs of Harvard-Yenching Institute Scholarship, Asian Scholars Foundation (ASF), Canadian Research Special Award (SACS), German Catholic Overseas Exchange Center/Scientific Research Institute (KAAE)/DFG).

Yao Beiqin graduated from Fudan University in 1985. He is currently an associate professor at the Party School of Shanghai Municipal Committee. Modern religious culture as the research field. He has translated Eliade's History of Religious Thought (combined translation), PASCAL's Epistles from the Provinces and so on.
